THE Institute of People Management of Zimbabwe (IPMZ) has a major role to play in contributing towards sustainable development in the country. This was said by the Chief Executive Officer of Kingdom Bank, Mrs. Lynn Mukonoweshuro at the recently held, IPMZ inaugural golf day Cocktail party where she was the guest of honor.

She said “Economist Theodore Schultz invented the term Human Capital Development in the 1960s to reflect the value of our human capacities. Human Capital Development (HCD) is a measure of the economic value of an employee’s skill set. The education, experience and abilities of an employee have an economic value for employers and for the economy as a whole.”

Mrs. Mukonoweshuro also highlighted that there is a direct and critical connection between Human Resource Management and Human Capital Development and the economic growth.

“IPMZ has come a long way to what it is today. Its contribution to the Zimbabwean economic recovery can therefore not to be underscored.  These include millennium development goals such as eradication of extreme poverty and hunger by achieving decent employment for women, men and young people, achieving universal primary education. Promoting gender equality and empowering women. IPMZ has achieved all this” Mrs. Mukonoweshuro said.

In conclusion, Mrs. Mukonoweshuro gave the industry’s expectation from IPMZ which included churning quality graduates into the industry, executive coaching, providing mentorship programmes. She also added that the best way to maximize an investment in human capital development is through leverage technology-based learning-e learning is what is now expected of the Institute. Talent Management Metrics, Innovation, Engagement and Commitment Matrix demonstrate the existing levels of engagement and commitment of an organization’s human capital.
